DSPL5 Sensory Resource Library
The library is open to schools and nurseries within the DSPL5 area to trial larger and more expensive items to see if they have a positive impact on their pupil. Glow Construction Blocks - these come in sets of 2 sizes, each light up and change colour. They can be used to support maths, sensory learning and construction zones.
A range of fidget toys and sensory bean bags - these help to create calm and to relieve stress and anxiety.
Light up glitter tubes and sensory bubble tubes - used for sensory stimulation and to promote calm and reduce stress.
Therapy body exercise ball - a great way to help with balancing exercises and skills, co-ordination skills and increased flexibility. Balls should only be used if recommended by an OT.
Wobble cushions - air-filled seat that is similar to sitting on a gym ball. The unevenness of the cushion adds an element of instability. It is designed to promote active sitting.
Balancing boards - for play and rehabilitation. The board consists of a hard plastic surface with non-skid elevations in artificial rubber to give a good foothold.
Wobble stools - ideal for those who fidget, have hyperactivity, impaired body position awareness and low muscle tone.
Weighted blankets, lap pads and weighted vests - recommended by Occupational Therapists for use in the classroom to increase attention span and reduce hyperactivity often seen in children with ADHD, ASD, sensory and learning difficulties.
Writing slopes - help to ensure greater comfort when writing and more effective skills development.
Sensory balls - these make great fiddles toys and can help to reduce stress and promote calm.
Pop-up dark den - versatile pop up sensory pod ideal for environments where a full sensory room is not available. Use with projectors and light sources (not included).
Trace & Balance Boards - helps cognitive and sensory skills as well as balancing and gross motor skills.
